Final ‘Summer of Love’ Campaign Results Are In!

The final Summer of Love campaign results are in and O.M.G.!!! Between your generous donations, grants and matched funds, we raised $47,680 this summer! 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉

We at Rx Ballroom Dance are filled with love and gratitude for the amazing support our community has shown us. We literally could not do this work without YOU!

As we move into the Fall season, we are excited to be able to begin expanding to offer more classes to more people in need of the incredible health benefits ballroom dancing provides.

THANK YOU! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

It’s the last week of Summer of Love

The Rx Ballroom Dance community is AMAZING!

We completely CRUSHED our Summer of Love goal of raising $10k for the Rx Ballroom Dance program, which has been successfully improving the quality of life in people struggling with neurodegenerative conditions.

The survey results from our own participants speak for themselves:

  • 78% of our current participants reported physical improvement including balance, coordination and decreased stiffness
  • 89% reported cognitive improvement including recall and retention
  • 100% reported social and emotional improvement!

Success like this combined with the increased demand for the Rx Ballroom program during our Summer of Love campaign tells us it’s time to expand our program.

There’s no reason to wait. People struggling with Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative conditions need us NOW!

Expansion will include hiring new teachers and adding additional classes, which of course means additional cost.

After crushing our original goal of $10k, our matching sponsors for the Summer of Love proposed a new challenge – raise another $5k by September and they will match it too!

We have just a week left. Will you help us go the distance?

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop!

We did it!

Thanks to your generosity, we smashed our $10k goal for the Summer of Love!

Our matching sponsors are thrilled AND since we hit our goal so successfully, they think we can do even more. Especially given that the demand for our program has also grown tremendously. Since we started offering both in-person and online classes, enrollment has increased by 100%!

Not surprising though. We know how effective ballroom dance can be at improving balance, coordination, memory recall, and mood, among other things. The results from our own participants speak for themselves:

  • 78% of our current participants reported physical improvement including balance, coordination and decreased stiffness
  • 89% reported cognitive improvement including recall and retention
  • 100% reported social and emotional improvement!

The increased demand and survey results from our current participants tell us we need to expand our program sooner than expected. There’s no reason to wait. People struggling with Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative conditions need us now!

Expansion will include hiring new teachers and adding additional classes, which of course means additional cost.

So our matching sponsors for the Summer of Love proposed a new challenge – raise another $5k by September and they will match it too!

Will you help us go the distance this summer?

We’re so close! Help us reach our Summer of Love goal.

Wow wow wow!  Halfway through the Summer of Love and we’ve raised 75% of our $10,000 fundraising goal! We are so grateful to all of our supporters for helping us bring ballroom dance to people who truly benefit physically, mentally and emotionally.

There is still more dancing to do though; so don’t stop the music just yet.

Even though ballroom dance is proven to diminish and prevent the effects of neurological diseases, health insurance providers won’t pay for the cost of lessons. That’s where Rx Ballroom comes in. We are committed to providing FREE lessons to any participant that suffers from a neurological disease such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or dementia.

Help us keep our participants grooving through the rest of the Summer of Love.

Holiday shopping on Amazon? Be sure to Smile!

Hello ballroom dance fans!

The holiday season is officially upon us. Though this year looked different, we at Rx Ballroom Dance made sure to keep up with tradition and stuffed ourselves silly at Thanksgiving.

The pandemic had a major impact on our fundraising efforts this year. Because we weren’t able to host any parties, galas, auctions or other events in person, our donations have taken a huge hit.

We need your help more than ever to keep the dance classes going for our participants who must remain isolated for their own safety.

While direct donations are the most helpful, we also wanted to share another easy way for you to support us – Amazon Smile!

When you do your holiday shopping via Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com instead of the regular amazon.com and select “Rx Ballroom Dance” as your charity of choice.

Thank you, and happy holidays!

Why are we doing this?

During the month of June, Rx Ballroom Dance has set a goal of raising $10k. We are a nonprofit that provides free ballroom dance classes to participants living with neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and dementia. Ballroom dance lessons can cost over $100 per lesson, and medical insurance providers haven’t clued in yet to the fact that dance has incredible positive health effects on these conditions.

Rx Ballroom Dance refuses to accept that one of the best ways to treat neurological disease can be unaffordable or inaccessible.

We are only able to do what we do thanks to the support of a community grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation and YOU.  So THANK YOU!

We hope you’ll join us in the fun over the next couple weeks. And if you support what we stand for, please consider donating.

Rx Ballroom Dance featured on ABC7!

Did you catch the news this morning! We were on it!

We’re so excited to be able to share our story and mission with the greater Southern California community via #SoCalStrong on news channel ABC7. It hasn’t been easy for anyone during this pandemic, and we’re grateful that technology has allowed us to continue to show up for our participants.

Our online classes, just like the in-person ones, are 100% free to participants. So we need YOU to keep us all dancing.

Please help us reach our June goal with a donation today! Even just $25 covers the cost of one class.

Virtual Dance Classes Continue!

Dance has the power to lift your mood by giving you a happy boost. That magical combo of music, rhythm and movement all signal your brain’s good feeling signals (norepinephrine + serotonin + dopamine). So you can literally dance your way to a happier state of mind!

So does quarantine give you a case of the blues?  Join us Mondays and Wednesdays to kick, tap, shuffle and grapevine those negative feelings away.  You’ll thank us for those happy feet!

Classes are always free and geared toward anyone who has been diagnosed with a neurological disease (and their caregivers!). Subscribe to the mailing list for the latest schedule and class links.

Let’s Line Dance!

In order to keep grooving, you need to keep moving!

At Rx Ballroom Dance, we know a thing or two about the benefits of moving. In order to keep our physical coordination up, mental awareness sharp and emotional balance at a healthy level, we need to keep our dopamine flowing.

With everything going on in the world right now, do you need a little dopamine boost? We’re here for you.

Follow along to our Merengue or Salsa Line Dances! They are fun, easy to do and perfect for dancing from the comfort of your own home. It’s important that you keep your body moving and stimulate both the left and the right coordination centers in the brain.

So let’s get moving with these fun and easy dances!
